Weekly Update, May 31, 2021

Howdy y’all,

Thanks for coming back to check out this weekly update. I’ve been struggling lately and as a result, this post will be short.

Black Lives Matter

Not much I want to say on this subject outside what I write every week. Black Lives Matter! As I do most weeks, I am once again suggesting that if you are a white person, it is important to make sure that you are regularly listening to the voices of people who don’t look like you! If you are on social media, make sure that your feed isn’t just one white person after another. There is much more that we can do, but it’s an important starting point.

Politics

Disgusting but totally not surprising that the Republican party blocked the inquiry into the insurrection on January 6. Is anyone surprised? So many things about that make my blood boil, but seeing that the vote was 54-35 and it was somehow a loss? The United States looks like a joke in the eyes of the world! What’s worse is that pundits are anticipating that it’s possible the Republicans are going to retake the House of Reps in 2022 and if you thought that the Democrats were struggling to get their bills passed now, it’ll never happen under the GQP! Also, that was not a typo, it was very intentional.

Biden also decided he’s not going to cancel student loan debt - one of his campaign promises. Just another promise that won’t be delivered.

I also keep thinking about how my generation, millennials, only own 4.4% of the wealth and of that, half is owned by only one Facebook dude that no one likes! I know that I am doing realitively well, but why don’t Boomers understand that their wealth-hoarding is destroying the country? Is it that they don’t care because they think they are going to die soon and have a death grip on power they refuse to release? Did they read The Hobbit and think that Smaug was the hero and that those greedy adventures were in the wrong?

Look, at the end of the day, both parties in the United States are garbage, why can’t we have anything better?

Personal

I’ve been struggling for the last few weeks. I am hesitant to write about it publicly, but I also don’t want to suffer in silence. It’s one of those things that feels like there is no middle ground, either talk about it or don’t. One the one hand, the internet never forgets - even if this page doesn’t get that many views it could be cached somewhere in some archive. On the other hand, if I write a thing that no one reads, doesn’t it really matter all that much? Now, dear reader, if you are reading this, clearly I’m just in a downward spiral. I don’t keep any analytics on this page or who views it, so I have no idea if anyone is reading this at all.

I don’t know, maybe I’ll talk about it later. If you read this and want to know more, ping me somewhere. Contact info is easy to find.
